 A Devotion beyond measure

Hanuman’s Sindoor.

ఒక రోజు, హనుమంతుడు సీతమ్మ గారు తలలో విభాగానికి సింధూరం దరించుకుంటున్నదాన్ని చూశాడు. ఆశ్చర్యంతో, "అమ్మా! మీరు ఇలా ఎందుకు చేస్తున్నారు?" అని అడిగాడు. దానికి సీతమ్మ గారు స్పందిస్తూ – "ఈ సింధూరం నా భర్త అయిన శ్రీరాముని పట్ల నా ప్రేమను, భక్తిని సూచిస్తుంది. దీన్ని దరించడం వలన ఆయన దీర్ఘాయుష్మంతుడవుతాడు, ఆయుష్షు ఆరోగ్యం మెరుగ్గా ఉంటుంది" అని చెప్పారు.

ఈ మాటలు విన్న హనుమంతుడు ఎంతో చలించి పోయాడు. "ఒక చిట్టిది బొట్టు సింధూరంతోనే రాముడికి దీర్ఘాయుష్మాన్భవ అంటే, నా శరీరం అంతా సింధూరంతో కప్పుకుంటే ఆయనకి అమరత్వమే కలుగుతుందని!" అనుకొని, ఏమాత్రం ఆలస్యం చేయకుండా తన శరీరాన్ని మొత్తం సింధూరంతో పూతాడు.

ఆ పట్ల హనుమంతుడు శ్రీరాముని సన్నిధికి వచ్చినపుడు, కోర్టులో ఉన్న అందరూ ఆశ్చర్యపోయారు. కానీ రాముడు హనుమంతుని ఆ నిర్మలమైన భక్తిని చూసి ఎంతగానో కరుణించిపోయాడు. ఆయన అనుగ్రహిస్తూ ఇలా చెప్పాడు – "నిన్ను సింధూరంతో పూజించే వారందరినీ నేను రక్షిస్తాను. వారికి నా అనుగ్రహం ఎప్పటికీ లభిస్తుంది."

అందుకే, ఈరోజుకీ అనేక హనుమాన్ మందిరాల్లో భక్తులు సింధూరాన్ని అర్పిస్తారు – అది వారి భక్తికి ఒక ప్రతీక. ఈ కథ హనుమంతుని శ్రీరాముడిపై ఉన్న నిష్కల్మషమైన ప్రేమ, పిల్లలవంటిది అయిన భక్తి తత్వాన్ని చూపే అందమైన ఉదాహరణ.

The story of Sita and Hanuman involving sindoor (vermilion) is a beautiful tale that highlights Hanuman’s deep devotion to Lord Rama.

One day, Hanuman saw Sita applying sindoor to the parting of her hair. Curious, he asked her why she did so. Sita explained that sindoor was a symbol of her devotion and love for her husband, Lord Rama, and that applying it ensured his long life and well-being.

Hearing this, Hanuman was deeply moved. If a small amount of sindoor could bless Rama with a long life, he thought, then covering himself entirely in sindoor would ensure Lord Rama’s immortality! Without hesitation, Hanuman smeared his entire body with sindoor.

When he appeared before Lord Rama in this state, everyone in the court was astonished. Rama, seeing Hanuman’s innocent and immense devotion, was deeply touched. He blessed Hanuman, saying that those who worship Hanuman with sindoor would always be protected and receive his grace.

This is why, in many Hanuman temples, devotees offer sindoor as a symbol of their devotion. The story is a beautiful example of Hanuman’s unconditional love for Lord Rama and his childlike simplicity.
