Daughter———I had two daughters in a span of two years. To be honest, I was not happy. My dreams remained unfulfilled. My dream was to have a son to play in my lap, but when my good husband said, "Sneha, we will raise and make our two daughters capable. Why are you pining for a son? In today's times of inflation, having more than two children is also against the country's interests. The country has a huge population. If you have a son after two daughters, your focus will be more on the son, due to which the daughters will feel insulted. I don't want this to happen. Our small family, a happy family."

I understood my husband's words to some extent, but an unfulfilled dream remained in my mind.

Together, we gave both our daughters a good personality with good education and good culture. The elder daughter became a doctor and the younger daughter an engineer. We married both our daughters to good boys with great pomp and show. The elder son-in-law is a doctor and the younger son-in-law is an engineer. Both our daughters got their desired life partners. We were very happy, so we started living happily. My husband divided whatever property we had equally between the two daughters. When the elder daughter said, "We don't need your property, Papa. You keep your property with yourself." Then my husband replied, "You are the heir of our house. After us, you two sisters will take care of our property together."

The daughter said, "You are not going anywhere right now, Papa."

"Someday or the other, we will have to go, son. Yes, I want to tell you one thing, if I go first, then take care of your mother."

"And what if I go first?" I said.

"Is this something to say, Mom, Dad? Why are you guys saying this? It is our duty to take care of both of you." Kritika said.

"I am saying this because both the sons of my friend Brijesh settled in America. Now there is no one to support him in his old age. When he had two sons, Brijesh was very proud thinking that two heirs were born. He also told me, "Take a chance once more Amulya, it is possible that a son will be born the third time. You will have an heir after you." I also said smilingly..."Only my daughters will become heirs. I don't want a son." My good husband had said.

After Papa passed away, the elder daughter Kritika opened a hospital in her father's name on the land that Papa had given her while dividing the property. The hospital was named 'Amulya Arogya Kendra' after her father. The younger daughter Amrita's father had given his house in her name. Amrita opened a free school for children in that house and named the school 'Sneha Vidyalaya' after me. Both the daughters have immortalised the name of their parents. Today I am proud of my daughters. There is no unfulfilled dream left in my mind now.

Who says that only boys become heirs, not girls. Wherever Kritika and Amrita's father is today, his chest must be swelling with pride seeing him from there, thinking that "After me, my daughters have kept our name high, kept it alive."

My daughters have changed my perspective with their deeds. There is no longer any resentment in my mind for not having a son.
